Nestled in the heart of Clarksville, IN, Park US-2255 at 201 W Riverside Dr. was a delightful discovery during my holiday visit to my sister in Kentucky. On a sunny day, the park came alive with vibrant colors and a gentle breeze, creating a perfect backdrop for relaxation in nature. As I soaked up the scenery, I thought about the Parks on the Air program, which encourages outdoor enthusiasts to connect while enjoying beautiful parks like this one.
This park offers a beautifully paved entrance, inviting parking areas, and convenient on-site restroom facilities, ensuring a welcoming experience for all who visit.
I fired up park US-2255 with my trusty 20-watt Xiegu G90 and my EFHW antenna! This setup has become my go-to for POTA adventures, and it still brings me so much joy. There’s something incredibly satisfying about making those connections in the great outdoors!
During my recent activation at US-2255 on October 28, 2024, I made a total of 12 contacts, all on the 40-meter band. While 12 may not seem like a significant number, each contact was hard-earned and required considerable effort. The activation took about an hour, during which I patiently called out, navigating the band conditions and competing signals. I was determined to pull in as many contacts as possible, and it was rewarding to connect with fellow operators who were equally eager to participate. Despite the challenges, the experience was fulfilling, and I felt a great sense of accomplishment after successfully activating the park.
The views of the falls with the city backdrop were remarkable. The train bridge enhanced the scene and resonated with my interest as a model railroader. I would recommend that Parks on the Air participants traveling through this area, stop, and take the time to activate this park.
