Park US-1269 is in Harrodsburg, KY, at 100 S. College St. The weather was pleasant for this activation—a sunny, cool day. I was on holiday visiting my sister and her husband. Here’s a fun fact: This was my first park activation.
I activated park US-1269 using my Xeigu G90 HF radio and CHA EMCOMM antenna. I have since modified the CHA CMOMM antenna, but at this point, it was stock; I had purchased it from HRO in Atlanta, GA, on the way to KY from South Carolina. I transported my radio from South Carolina to KY in an Apache 3800 carrying case. I also purchased a Bioenno Power 12V 9Ah 108 watt hour battery from HRO during that same trip. This battery pairs very well with the Xeigu G90.
I activated US-1269 on 10-27-2024. I made 10 contacts. My longest contact that day was to KC8IQ (674 miles) and my shortest was to W4WDK (328 miles)
After we completed the activation, we explored the fort grounds, which was a lot of fun. We toured several small buildings and met the blacksmith and the loom operators. The retelling of the history by reenactors was very well done. This is a great park that I would encourage anyone to visit, activate, and then enjoy with the family.
POTA on!
