Nestled in the stunning landscapes of Slade, KY, the POTA US-1286 Natural Bridge State Park is a true hidden gem! During my visit to Kentucky to see my sister, I had the pleasure of exploring this gorgeous park—my third and final activation on our adventure. As soon as you arrive, you’re greeted by paved parking and conveniently located restroom facilities, making it easy to start your day of exploration. The picnic areas invite you to relax and soak in the natural beauty all around, and if you’re in the mood for a little shopping, the park store is just a stone’s throw away from the picnic area. Whether you’re looking to enjoy a leisurely hike, have a delicious picnic, or just take in the breathtaking views, this park has something for everyone!
It was a pleasantly cool and sunny fall day when we decided to visit the park, and let me tell you, the autumn colors were absolutely breathtaking! The vibrant hues of orange, red, and yellow made for a picture-perfect backdrop.
I couldn’t resist the opportunity to set up my trusty Xeigu G90 and EFHW antenna to activate the park. As I tuned into the 40-meter bands, excitement buzzed in the air. I managed to connect with ten fellow radio enthusiasts, including two stations who were also activating from other parks!
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to reach out to others around the country, all while soaking in the beauty of nature? I had an amazing time at the park I activated on 10/29/24! One of the highlights was riding the sky lift up to explore the natural bridge. It was an exhilarating experience—one that I’ll never forget! The views were absolutely breathtaking, making every moment feel magical.
