Fort Pulaski National Monument, located at 101 Fort Pulaski Rd, Savannah, GA, is just a short drive from Tybee Island. The visitors center features a small museum and a brief documentary that highlights the park’s history. Afterward, explore the well-maintained walking trails that offer a chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery. It’s a great spot for both history enthusiasts and nature lovers!

After three attempts to activate the park, I finally made it! My first visit was a bust since I got there after the 5 PM winter closing. Then, on the second trip, winter storm Enzo snowed the park in, forcing it to close. But let me tell you, it was absolutely worth the wait! This park is amazing. While I initially set out to activate it for POTA, I can’t wait to return for a special exploration of the fort grounds!

The weather was ideal for my activation—a cool late winter day in the mid 60s with crystal-clear skies. I set up my Xeigu G90 and Chameleon Emcomm end-fed half-wave antenna in a sloper configuration, operating right from the back of my truck in the parking lot. It was a perfect day to make contacts!

I kicked off my adventure at this park on February 2, 2025, making a total of 24 contacts. The highlight? A remarkable connection over a thousand miles away with KD0DCZ! On the flip side, my closest contact was KO4VPW, at 426 miles. What an exciting day!

As I wrapped up my visit to this incredible fort, I realized that it truly felt like a journey back in time. Even with the limited time I had, it stood out as the highlight of my trip. The restoration is stunning, and the National Park Service deserves high praise for their work.
