The Savannah National Wildlife Refuge is located off of Aligator alley on the South Carolina/Georgia border. It is an awesome location to visit for a POTA activation. The Laurel Hill wildlife drive is a beautiful and scenic drive through a nature trail full of alligators, birds, and other lowcounty wildlife.

It took a little bit to get an antenna configuration that would allow successful contacts. The spot where I chose to activate with my mobile shack had little to no trees. I ended up setting up a very humble sloper from the back of my trailer, anchored to some weeds in the marsh.

For this activation, I started with the 20 watts that come from my Xiegu G90. However, with my humble antenna setup, I wasn’t able to make many good contacts. I decided at that point to tag in the G90’s companion amplifier, the Xiegu XPA-125B amp. That made all the difference in the world.

A big thanks to all the station operators who answered my CQ POTA calls. EA8CWA in the Canary Islands was the clear winner for the DX. POTA on!
