What is a WebSDR?
A WebSDR is a small, wide-range radio receiver connected to a computer server and HF antenna and hosted on the Internet for public use. They are helpful for checking your propagation in remote areas. They are also convenient for listening to your favorite net or station from your PC or mobile device. This SDR works very well with mobile browsers.
KQ4TAY’s WebSDR is available at https://hfreceiver.com, free of charge. If the users are listening to the same frequencies, it can host 30+ simultaneous users. If the band changes while you are listening, a new client has tuned to a different band.
The limit requiring clients to be on the same band is due to the bandwidth limits of my current RTL-SDR V4 digital receiver. These limits will disappear as I add individual tuners for each band or purchase a more expensive high-bandwidth receiver. Each additional tuner costs about $30, so I’ll add a couple each month until I have the WebSDR dialed in for the best user experience.
I am going to drop a donation link below. Feel free to donate if you want to see wider bandwidth faster, allowing more cross-band simultaneous users. However, don’t feel compelled to, and don’t let that stop you from enjoying what is there now.
